Naghel, Francis, b. ca. 1781

Francis Naghel was born in France around 1781, and became a United States citizen before he was 25. Prior to the War of 1812, he worked onboard the Thomas Gibbons and St. Helena, ferrying immigrants from Belfast, Ireland, to the United States. During the war, he served as a private in the United States Marine Artillery. He died in New Albany, Indiana. Naghel's descendants included Dr. Edward Q. Naghel of New Albany, Indiana, and Charles Edward Naghel of Juneau, Alaska.
