Francis W. Robinson was Curator at the Detroit Institute of Arts, and an avid historian and genealogist.
Francis Waring Robinson, the son of Dr. James Johnson and Anna Waring Robinson, was born on January 13, 1907 in Lakeville, Conn. He received his bachelor's and master's of fine arts degrees from Princeton University in 1929 and 1933, with post-graduate work done at Harvard University. Mr. Robinson became a curator of the DIA in 1939, first in European art, then in ancient and medieval art. He retired in 1972. He and Margaret Hartsuff Trowbridge, widow of Albert H. Trowbridge, married on May 26, 1971. Mr. Robinson died in Grosse Pointe, Mich. on December 18, 1985.
