Julian Hirsch Levi was was born in the Hyde-Park district of Chicago and graduated from the University of Chicago. He spent 15 years in private law practice before joing the Reynolds Printasign company first as vice-president and later as president. He was the Executive Director of the South East Chicago Commission from 1952-1980. He was Professor of Urban Studies at the University of Chicago Law School from 1963 until 1980. He was chairman of the Chicago Plan Commission from 1974 until 1978. In 1980 Professor Levi became a member of the Sixty-Five Club Faculty at the University of Hastings College of the Law where he taught until his death in 1996.
