Mrs McKenzie Johnston is the great grand daughter of Rev. John Davidson and Harriet Miller. John Davidson (1834-1881) born in Kinghorn, Fife, Scotland, attended the Universities of St Andrews and Edinburgh, not taking a degree. He studied divinity in 1856-1858, 1860-1861 becoming a licentiate of the Free Church Presbytery of Kinross. 1864 ordained Minister of Langholm, Dumfriesshire. 1860 married Harriet, daughter of Hugh Miller and wife Lydia Falconer. Harriet a novelist, poet, contributed to journals. 1869 was called to Adelaide, arriving with wife and children on Carnaquheen in June 1870. Instrumental in the founding of Adelaide University in 1874, was appointed the first Hughes Professor of English Literature and Mental and Moral Philosophy. Harriet and two children visited England in 1877-1878. Davidson died at Glenelg on 22 July 1881, Harriet died on 21 Dec. 1883. Her daughters returned to Scotland on "Hesperus" in 1884.
