Laestadius, L. L. (Lars Levi), 1800-1861
Variant namesLars Levi Laestadius (1800-1861) was born in Swedish Lapland, of partial Sami ancestry. He became a Swedish Lutheran pastor, ministering to often troubled Sami parishes, and in the 1840s founded the conservative Lutheran revival movement known as Laestadianism. He was also a gifted botanist and member of the Edinburgh Botanical Society. Fragmenter i lappska mythologien appeared in 1844.
