Jones E. Bolt was born 16 June 1921 at Ware Shoals, S.C. He entered military duty in August 1942 and in 1944 was assigned to the 362d Fighter Bomber Group in England. He flew 15 combat missions in the European Theatre of Operations. From 1946-1966 Bolt held positions with the Army at bases in Illinois, Iowa and Texas. In 1966 Bolt was transferred to Southeast Asia and in 1967 he was sent to Da Nang Air Base. He regularly flew missions to Hanoi. Following the assignment he was awarded the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal and other awards. Bolt returned to the United States in 1968 and in 1970 he became the Deputy Chief of Staff for operations in Weisbaden, Germany. Bolt is married to the former Margaret Cox of Greenville, SC. They have three sons: Manning, Robert, and Charles. General Bolt retired in 1973.
