Agency History: The Assistant to the Chancellor position was created following the merger of Stout into the University of Wisconsin System. This position was concerned with direct aid to the Chancellor in carrying out the responsibilities of the office and the goals of the university. In addition, the Assistant to the Chancellor developed and maintained executive level relationships through interaction with business, industry, students, faculty, and community giving breadth and depth to the Chancellor's office. Specific responsibilities included such tasks as coordination of professional staff, carrying out functions assigned to the Chancellor's office in the areas of University Relations, Alumni and Development and Intercollegiate Athletics. Following the retirement of Dr. Furlong, the position was eliminated and the responsibilities were distributed among other offices.
