The organization is founded on four basic tenants: self-pride, self-determination, support, and community service. OUTlook received the 2003-2004 Diversity Program/Project of the Year for sponsoring a visit by Debra Davis, and the 1998-1999 Program/Project of the Year for sponsoring Gloria Steinem's visit. NMU ALLIES is an organization at Northern Michigan University for people of all sexual orientations. Its purpose is to provide an avenue for faculty, staff, and students who wish to offer visible support for a safe university environment for faculty, staff, and students who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender (GLBT). The organization seeks to inform others about sexual diversity issues, and to encourage people to join others on the campus and on a national level working to support the GLBT community nationwide.
