It is a not-for-profit, multi-cultural, community-based organization that has the mission of enabling blacks and other minority-group members to reach their full potential in American society by providing human services found to be insufficient or nonexistent in urban areas. The records document African-American community life and organizations in Albany, New York, and vicinity, and a range of social and political issues, including voter education and registration; family planning, teen pregnancy, and fatherhood programs; vocational training and housing.
