Artemus Edwin Weatherbee, a native of Bangor, graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Maine in 1939 as a Phi Beta Kappa and a Phi Kappa Phi. He was a naval officer during World War II and remained active in the Naval Reserves until his retirement with the rank of commander (1978). He served 34 years in the Federal Government, including appointments as an assistant secretary in the Treasury Department in Washington, D.C. (1959-1970) and U.S. Director of the Asian Development Bank in the Philippines with the personal rank of Ambassador (1970-1973). He was a member of the University of Maine Board of Trustees (1975-1980). He died in Florida in 1995.
