Fort George Wright was established by the U.S. Army in 1899 and operated until 1958. The Fort Wright College Historical Museum was organized in 1964 to “collect, preserve, and display material relating to the military occupancy of the Fort.” Due to financial difficulty, the Museum was forced to close in 1983. Collections from the Museum were transferred to appropriate historical societies throughout the Pacific Northwest.
