Born in Van Buren County, Mich. on Jul. 12, 1876, Mattie Viola Sisson Crandall Allen, daughter of George R. and Susan Sisson, married Alfred J. Allen on May 19, 1919 in Detroit. Her first marriage had been to Preston E. Crandall, a railroad conductor in Grand Rapids. They had a daughter, Hazel, who was born in 1895. By 1920, Alfred Allen was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F.), and received his certificate welcoming him to the organization in 1912. Mrs. Allen died in Detroit on Jan. 29, 1962.
