Pioneer Southern Baptist missionary to China, 1873-1912. Instigator of Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. Educated at Virginia Female Seminary and Albemarle Female Institute, Charlottesville, Virginia. Her work included teaching and evangelism. She died in 1912 after depriving herself of food during a famine to give to others.
