Private First Class (PFC) George S. Mentzer was a member of the United States Army. He was born in Annville, Pennsylvania, on 10 February 1923. In 1943, Mentzer entered the Army at New Cumberland, Pennsylvania; from there he would be assigned to basic training at Camp Shelby, Mississippi, where he was trained as a driver with the Anti-Tank Company of the 83rd Division. In January 1944, he was reassigned to Camp Miles Standish, Massachusetts, and left with the 83rd Division to fight in World War II. Mentzer and his unit would land at Utah Beach on 16 June 1944. He participated in the Battle of Germany in October 1944 while assigned to H Company, 329th Infantry Regiment, 83rd Infantry Division. Mentzer's last battle would be the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944. In December 1945, Mentzer was honorably discharged from the service.
