Alonzo Hazelton Raleigh was born in Francistown, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire on 7 November 1818 and trained as a mason in Boston and New York. He joined the LDS Church in 1842, married Mary Ann Taber/Tabor on 17 August 1842, and moved to Nauvoo, Illinois in the spring of 1843, where he did brick work for many buildings, including the Nauvoo House. He was a member of the Nauvoo Legion, immigrated west with the Saints, served as president of the Deseret Dramatic Association from 1851 to about 1853, and acted as bishop of the 19th Ward of Salt Lake from 1856 to an undetermined time. He served as alderman of the 3rd Municipal Ward of Salt Lake City from 1854 to about 1882, and was mayor pro-tem for Abraham O. Smoot from May to September of 1857. Served a mission to the New England States from October 1869 to April 1870. Assisted in building the St. George temple. Headed a regiment that guarded Echo Canyon during the 1857-1858 Utah War. Ordained a patriarch by Wilford Woodruff and Franklin D. Richards on 25 January 1883. Sat in on the constitutional convention to form a state government for Utah in 1896. Died 13 May 1901 in Salt Lake City.
