Stephen McCollum served in the Civil War and later farmed near Sac City, Iowa. He was born in Tuscarawas County, Ohio. In October, 1861 he enlisted in Company B, 64th Ohio Infantry. He served throughout the war, rising from Private to Second Lieutenant. In 1867, he moved to Lucas County, Iowa and in 1869, to Sac County. He farmed in Sac County until 1880, when he moved to Sac City. He was a member of General William T. Sherman Post No. 284, Grand Army of the Republic.
