Bowdoin, James, 1794-1833
Variant namesJames Bowdoin, nephew of the famous statesman of the same name, was educated at Bowdoin College. Born James Bowdoin Winthrop, he dropped Winthrop after he inherited part of his uncle's estate. He became a prominent citizen of New England, doing valuable work in connection with the Massachusetts Historical Society.
