Elisabeth, Princess of France, 1764-1794
Variant namesFrench princess Elisabeth, daughter of the Dauphin Louis (d. 1765), and sister of Louis XVI, she insisted on staying at the side of her brother and Marie-Antoinette, refusing all opportunities to flee abroad, and was guillotined in 1794. In 1789 Elisabeth moved to her estate in Montreuil, taking her library with her. After her death it was confiscated and an alphabetical index of it was compiled, now at the Bibliothèque de l'Arsenal, listing 109 works, most of them now in the Bibliothèque Nationale.
