Brydges family.
James Brydges, 1st Duke of Chandos, (1673-1744): British statesman and patron of the arts. The dukedom was inherited by his only surviving son Henry Brydges. The 3rd Duke of Chandos, James Brydges (1732-1789), was a prominent Whig politician and courtier. In 1777 he married Anne Eliza (Gamon) Elletson, the daughter of Richard Gamon and widow of Roger Hope Elletson Governor of Jamaica (1766-1767). By 1791, the Dowager Duchess had been declared insane.
