English professor. Herrnstadt earned his B.S. (1948) and M.S. (1950) from the University of Wisconsin and the Ph. D (1960) from the University of Maryland. He was a Professor of English at Iowa State University and he specialized in and edited a collection of the letters of A. Bronson Alcott, which was published by the ISU Press in 1969.
