Cornelius Cuyler (1697-1765) was a third generation emigrant from Holland to New York State. His grandfather, Hendrick, a tailor by trade, was born in Holland, came to America, and in 1664 went to Albany where he acquired property. His oldest son, Johannes (1661?-1740), was a trader, Indian Commissioner, Justice and Mayor of Albany. Cornelius was baptized in the New York Dutch Church, 14 February 1697, and married Catalyntie, daughter of Johannes Schuyler and Elizabeth Staat. He was a fur trader, a mayor of Albany, 1742-1746, and supplier to the troops in the French and Indian War.
