Stirling, James, 1852-1909.
Botantist and Geologist. Stirling was born in Geelong in 1852 and educated there and also in Melbourne before joining the Lands Department in 1873. During his career he held various government positions including that of Government Geologist. While working as a Lands Officer at Omeo he was involved in sending specimens from the Australian Alps to Baron von Mueller. He died in 1909.
