Eddy, Henry, 1798-1849
Shawneetown, Illinois lawyer, newspaper publisher, bank president, land speculator and state representative. Came to Illinois in 1818 and first published the Illinois Emigrant with Peter Kimmel and then the Illinois Gazette with James Hall. Was aide-de-camp to Governors Edwards and Reynolds. Attorney for the Illinois Bank and a director of the Bank of Illinois. State Representative, 1820-1822 and 1846-1848. Entered into land speculation and helped found the town of Massac. Son-in-law of John Marshall who founded the first bank in Illinois at Shawneetown in 1813.
