Maude Ward Lafferty was noted for her research. She was born in 1869 in Cynthiana, Kentucky where she also graduated from high school. She continued her education and graduated from a Paris, Kentucky convent as well. She was the wife of Judge William Thornton Lafferty who established the University of Kentucky's College of Law. Maude Lafferty wrote The Lure of Kentucky, a historical guidebook. She served as secretary of club service in the University of Kentucky's Department of Extension from 1924-1940. She affected a bureau of information to supply source material, books, historical data, speakers for club programs, and founded the University of Kentucky Woman's Club in 1909. Maude Ward Lafferty served as the first UK Woman's Club president, was also the president of the Woman's Club of Central Kentucky from 1914-1916, and served as chairman of the board of the Kentucky Federation of Woman's Clubs. In 1924, she wrote and directed a sesquicentennial pageant for Harrodsburg and in 1925, one for Lexington. Maude Ward Lafferty gave lectures in the early 1920s on Kentucky history and raised more than 1,000 dollars for the University Student Loan Fund. She died on January 11, 1962.
