Ward Sanford Ryan (b. Aug. 31, 1912, Billings, Montana), U.S. Army officer, graduated from West Point in 1938. During World War II, he was commanding officer, 513th Parachute Infantry. In 1954 he was commanding officer, 60th Infantry. During the 1960s he served as deputy commandant, U.S. Army War College; assistant division commander, 101st Airborne Division; chief of the U.S. Military Training Mission to Saudi Arabia; and with the U.S. Army Advance Group, Korea. In 1970 he began his assignment as deputy commanding general for reserve forces, 5th U.S. Army.
