Thomas Haines Dudley (1819-1893) was a New Jersey Quaker, lawyer, politician. (Whig - then Republican). U.S. Consul at Liverpool 1861-1872. In charge of U. S. Secret Service throughout the British Isles during U. S. Civil War. In 1872, assigned to give full time assistance in preparation of Alabama Claims. Author of pro-protectionist pamphlets c. 1880.
Son, Edward, served as Vice Consul & Acting Consul in Liverpool 1871 & 1872. Thereafter, partner in father's New Jersey law firm.
