Born in Pitt County, North Carolina, in 1870, William Colbert (Willie) Jackson graduated from the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts in 1896 with a B.S. in General Farming, Dairying and Lumber Manufacturing. Jackson settled in the Wake Forest area after graduation. He established himself as a farmer and married Mary Smith of Winterville, North Carolina. The couple had seven children, six sons and one daughter. Throughout his life, Jackson maintained close ties with his alma mater and his fellow graduates, attending Alumni Day exercises every year. Three of Jackson's children also graduated from North Carolina State University. Jackson was an active member of the North Carolina Agricultural Society and the Wake Forest Baptist Church. He died in January of 1952 at the age of eighty-two.
