Art union; Philadelphia, Pa.

Founded in 1844 and incorporated in 1847 to encourage appreciation of American art and artists. Organized free exhibtions which were held at the Union's gallery at 210 Chestnut Street; sold paintings from these exhibitions; and established a membership program that entitled members to the monthly publication, PHILADELPHIA ART UNION REPORTER and other membership benefits.
