Hubert John (Tod) Sloan was born on May 28, 1903 in Nauvoo, Illinois. He earned his B.S. (1926) and M.S. (1927) degrees from the University of Illinois and a Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1929. He held the following positions at the University of Minnesota over his 38 year career: professor and head of the Poultry Husbandry Department (1948-1953), director of the Agricultural Experiment Station (1953-1966), associate dean of the Institute of Agriculture and dean of the College of Agriculture. At the time of his death, on May 1, 1974, Dr. Sloan was acting dean of the Institute of Agriculture and acting deputy vice president for agriculture, forestry and home economics.
