Chappell, Joel Robert,
Joel Robert Chappell was born in Halifax, Virginia, on February 28, 1819. He was a successful businessman before the Civil War, until his iron foundry was confiscated by the Union army. He moved to Jackson, Tenneesee, and had plans to travel to California, but before he could do so he became ill and died on February 18, 1876.
