The Florida Technological University Physical Plant began in 1967 as the primary facilitator of maintenance and utilities to the institution. The utilities building was built in 1968 and its shop in 1969. Over the years it grown and adapted to the ever increasing size and scope of the university with duties including repairs, landscaping, waste disposal, fire safety systems management, and recycling, in addition to working with outside contractors. Its name was changed to University of Central Florida Physical Plant in 1978 with the corresponding change of the institution's name.
