Abbott family.
James Abbott (1744-1800) was an early English merchant in Detroit. In 1780 he received large grants of land on the Detroit River and Lake St. Claire from the Chippewa and Pottawatomie Indians. He married Mary Barkle of Philadelphia and they had six children.
