In the 1970s, David B. Goodstein created the Advocate Research and Education Foundation, a non-profit structure through which to conduct the "Advocate Experience." Initially the Experience was a one-weekend seminar similar to Werner Erhard's EST, only targeted at a gay audience. The foundation was eventually combined with the Mariposa Education and Research Foundation.
