Parker received his A.B. and M.A. degrees in mathematics from the University of North Carolina and his Ph. D. from Brown University. His fifty year academic career included twenty-two years as Dean of the Graduate School at Auburn University, and mathematics assignments at other institutions. He was a member and officer of many professional, academic, and civic organizations, and was author of numerous articles on mathematics.
