Hide Profile

Lilly Klug was born in Vienna, c. 1910, to parents Gisela Klug (1885-1942) and Salamon Klug (?-1938). Her parents had a small garment shop. Lilly's brother, Paul, left Austria in early 1938 and eventually settled in Greenwood, North Carolina. Lilly's fiance, Richard Isler, was arrested during Kristallnacht and sent to Dachau. On his release a few months later the couple married and left the country, arriving via Vancouver to New York City. Their attempts to obtain a visa and passage for Lilly's mother proved unsuccessful and she was deported to Minsk in May 1942 and killed at Maly Trostinec concentration camp. Lilly died in the 1960s.
