The company, located in Ware, Mass., was incorporated in 1823 and produced woolen and cotton cloth, textile machinery and parts. It eventually had two cotton mills, one woolen mill and two machine shops, as well as a company-owned hotel, farm, houses and land. It produced cotton cloth and woolens, mostly Negro cloth. In 1828 the company failed and was conveyed to the Phoenix Co.; in 1829 the Hampshire Co. became the owners. In 1830 it was enlarged but failed again in 1837. The Otis Co., formed in 1839, acquired part of the Ware property, and in 1841 Gilbert and Stevens acquired the remainder.
