Huston Clinton was born in Gibson County, Indiana, ca. 1835. He mustered in at Indianapolis in January 1864 and fought with Company D, 28th United States Colored Troops (USCT) during the Civil War. In April 1864, six companies were organized under the auspices of the 28th USCT. They were turned over to the United States as a battalion. Later four more companies were recruited bringing it to a full regiment. Pvt. Clinton and the rest of the regiment were mustered out on November 8, 1865 in Corpus Christie, Texas. They arrived back in Indianapolis on January 6, 1866.
