Clark Ahlberg was born in Wichita, Kansas in 1918. He graduated from the University of Wichita in 1939, and then attended Syracuse University. He earned both the masters degree and doctorate in political science at Syracuse. After holding administrative jobs at Syracuse University, he accepted a position in the New York State Budget Division. He returned to Syracuse University in 1959 as Vice President.
Ahlberg became President of Wichita State University in 1968. During his 15 year presidency enrollment at the University jumped from 11,548 students to more than 17,000 students. Academic programs expanded during his tenure include continuing education, off-campus courses, cooperative education, and television courses. Among the new campus buildings constructed during his presidency were the Ulrich Museum of Art, Clinton Hall, the McKnight Art Center, the Health Sciences building, Lindquist Hall, Hubbard Hall, and the Heskett Center. Dr. Ahlberg retired in 1983.
