Hillborn, John A.

John A. Hillborn was born in Gevle, Sweden, a seaport town north of Stockholm, in 1879. He left Sweden on a sailing ship as a cabin boy when he was 15 years old, sailing to Australia, Mexico, Hawaii and other ports. He finally ended up in San Francisco where he sailed for many years and also was a master on some of the ships. He eventually ended up sailing to Alaska and settling down in Chignik, on the Alaska Peninsula in the early 1920's, where he married.
