The Council was organized by the presidents of six colleges and universities (Boston College, Boston University, M.I.T., Northeastern, Tufts and Harvard) in cooperation with the Lowell Institute. Established to provide an educational and cultural service to the people of New England, the Council broadcast its first radio program in 1947.
