The Governor's Conference on Education, called by Governor Haydon Burns, was held February 24-25, 1966 in Tampa, Florida. The overall purpose of the Conference was "to provide for thorough-going discussion of Florida's educational program." In order that the Conference might be representative of the people of Florida, invitations were issued to lay persons and professional educators from various geographic areas of the state. They divided into groups in accordance with the following nine major areas of interest: 1) Buildings and Equipment, 2) Communications, 3) Dollars, 4) Education for Employment, 5) Learning, 6) Personnel Needs, 7) Relationships, 8) Services, and 9) Values. Each group had a consultant who served as a resource person during the group's discussions.
