The Academy for Female Education was established by the act of the Virginia on Jan. 7, 1807. The trustees included William Munford who was appointed the secretary.

William Munford (1775-1825), Virginia legislator, jurist and author. He was a member of the Virginia House of Degelates (1797-1801), the State Senate (1801-1805), and the Privy Council. In 1811, he was elected the clergy of the House of Delegates and served for the rest of his life. With William H. Henning, Munford prepared the edition of the decisions of the Supreme Court of Appeals of Virginia and took part in revising the statute laws of Virginia.

From the description of Proceedings of the Trustees appointed by an Act of the General Assembly passed the 7ht of January 1807 entiteld "an Act to establish an Academy for female Education in the cirty of Richmond 1807 -- 1811.
