Southern Baptist missionary to China, 1902-43. Founder of Zia Nga Zien Baptist Church, and Yates Academy, both in Soochow. A founder of and teacher at the Shanghai Baptist College (later the called the University of Shanghai). Director of the China Baptist Publication Society.
