Gay, Samuel F. (Samuel Frederick), b. 1842.
At the beginning of the Civil War, Samuel Frederick Gay of North Attleboro, Mass. enlisted in 7th Regiment of Massachusetts Infantry. Until Mar. 11, 1862, the regiment was assigned to the defenses of Washington and was stationed at Camp Brightwood. Attached to Army of the Potomac and then to the 6th Army Corps, the regiment fought on the Eastern front, taking part in all major campaign in Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. In June 1864, it was moved to Taunton, Mass., and there mustered out in July 1864. After the war, Samuel F. Gay farmed in North Attleboro and later worked for Brooks Spool Cotton. Co. in Maine.
