Hide Profile

The first episode of the Bauman Bible Telecast aired in September 1958. It was the first college course in religion offered on commercial television and the first educational television program at the college level in the Washington, D.C. area. The course was a cooperative project of American University, WMAL-TV, and the local council of churches. In 1967, Bauman Bible Telecasts, Inc. was established to support the program and ensure the preservation and distribution of the programs. The Emmy award winning program featured unrehearsed, live discussions about the Bible with students on the air. In the first half of the program, Rev. Edward Bauman presented an overview of the topic. Special guests included religious leaders, archeologists, and other experts. The last episode aired in 1992.
