Bateman - Switzer Company was a wholesale dealer in wines, liquors, cigars, bar glassware, and manufactured cider, soda, and ginger ale and was located at 206 Central Avenue in Great Falls, Mont.
David Bateman was born 17 Sept. 1854 in Tennessee. He resided in Texas during his youth and later in Kansas. In 1881, he came to Three Forks, Mont., and then moved to the Helena area until Apr. 1890. He became a partner in the firm of Bateman & Switzer Co. of Great Falls, Mont., which in 1898 became Bateman-Switzer Company, and was organized with a capital stock of $50,000. He married Lucretia Brown in Lincoln, Neb., in 1881. Bateman was interested in land properties and irrigating plants in Valley County in his later years. He retired from business in 1929 and died on 18 May 1932. Jacob Switzer was born 17 Oct. 1839 in what is now Alsace, Germany. In 1857, he came to the U.S., settling in Kansas and Colorado. He came to Helena, Mont., in 1877 to pursue his interest in mining. In 1890, he purchased land near Blossburg, which contained clay suitable for manufacturing firebrick, terra cotta, vitrified brick, and tiling. In 1881, he married Louise A. Sarsledt of Philadelphia. They lived in Helena, Mont. Jacob Switzer died on 15 Feb. 1931 and Louise A. Switzer died on 5 Aug. 1936. Jacob Switzer may have been a silent partner in the Bateman-Switzer Company of Great Falls.
