Albert Ray Olpin was born June 1, 1898 in Pleasant Grove, Utah. He received his B.A. in Physics from BYU in 1923, and his Ph.D. in Physics from Columbia in 1930. He was an instructor at BYU from 1923-24. He came to the University of Utah as President in January of 1946 from Ohio State University Research Foundation where he was the director. He retired in June of 1964 and was named President Emeritus. He died March 7, 1983.
