John Bratton, Confederate officer, probably from the Winnsboro, South Carolina vicinity, was born in 1831, and died in 1898. He was a slave owner who advanced from the rank of lieutenant to colonel with the 6th South Carolina Regiment. Bratton served in the area of Charleston, South Carolina, and in Virginia. He was in the Peninsular Campaign, the Battle of Fredericksburg, and the Wilderness-Spottsylvania Campaign. He became a brigadier-general in July 1864 and commanded a brigade in Jenkins' Division, Longstreet's Corps.
