Born in Louisville, Kentucky on January 1, 1934, David Eberhard is a graduate of Concordia College, Fort Wayne, Indiana and Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Divinity degree. He married Beverly Jacobs, and they had five children. After his 1959 graduation from the seminary, he was assigned in 1961 as pastor of Riverside Lutheran Church in Detroit, an urban congregation on the lower east side. Rev. Eberhard's work in the community earned him acclaim in national magazines, newspapers and on television. Riverside Lutheran Church was closed in 1976, and Rev. Eberhard was transferred to the Historic Trinity Lutheran Church on Gratiot Avenue. Rev. Eberhard was first elected to the Detroit City Council in 1969, and stepped down in 1993.
