Jean Joliffe was born in Clarksburg, W.V. on August 18, 1914. The family moved to Denver, Colo. when she was a child and she attended East High School and the University of Denver. In 1936, Jean Joliffe moved to New York City where she met Lenard Royston Yancey Jr., the couple was married in Scarsdale, N.Y. in 1937. She moved back to Denver, where her husband was stationed during WWII. Yancey worked in retail and later began her own business, the Bridal Loft. In 1973, she began Jean Yancey and Associates, a business firm specializing in assisting start-up businesses. Yancey taught at local schools. She was awarded the National Advocate for Women in Small Businesses, was inducted into the Colorado Women's Hall of Fame, and involved with many women's associations. Yancey died in Denver, Colo. on September 15, 2000.
